St. Stephen's Jacobite Syrian Cathedral , Manjinikkara

A Beacon of Faith and Heritage

St. Stephen’s Church stands as one of the most revered pilgrimage centers for Christians in this region. Established in 1925 by the visionary priest Kassisso Skaria Malpan Elavinammannil, the church has been a place of worship, reflection, and spiritual renewal for generations of believers.

Originally constructed as a humble place of devotion, the church underwent a significant renovation in 1964, transforming it into a magnificent structure that beautifully blends modern architectural design with traditional spiritual symbolism. Its main altar, dedicated to St. Stephen, radiates a sense of sacred solemnity, while the side altars honor Mother Mary and St. John the Baptist, reflecting the deep-rooted faith and devotion of the community.

A Place of Sacred Memory

Adding to its spiritual importance, St. Stephen’s Cathedral is also hallowed by a remarkable historical event. In 1932, during his apostolic visit to India, the Holy Patriarch of Antioch—the supreme head of the Syriac Orthodox Church—passed away at this very site. This event transformed the church into not only a center of worship but also a sacred memorial, revered by thousands of faithful who visit to seek blessings and pay homage.

Message of the Month

Beloved in Christ,

As we enter November, let us thank God for His blessings and prepare our hearts for the coming Advent season. This is a time to reflect on gratitude, faith, and renewal — to turn our thoughts from worry to worship, and our hearts from self to service.

I thank all our parish members for your love, unity, and dedication to the Church. Let us continue to grow together in prayer, humility, and compassion, following the example of our Lord Jesus Christ.

May the intercessions of Moran Mor Ignatius Elias III Bava Thirumeni bless us all and keep our parish in peace and joy.

With prayers and blessings,

Rev. Fr. Aby Stephen
